L.K.Advani using Google for Web Advertisement

It seems that more and more political leaders have started using the web for their campaign. Already, the last US presidential election had seen lot of activity in the web. Indian leaders are not behind the US counterparts in embracing the technology.

Today, I came across this link in my Gmail.

I also visited the website and it seems to be a decent one.

"Idli" originated in Indonesia???

Today, I was reading this article from the India Today & suprised to see that Idly was originated from Indonesia. Further googling caught me this blog which says that Idly might have been brought to South India by the silk weavers of Saurashtra (or Sourashtra).

Gujarati origin
Gujarat have IDADA which is steamed dhokla made from same ingredients as Idly.Namely Urad dhaal and Rice which are fermented overnight and next day steamed.Gujarathis claim Idaly is a dish which came to south from Gujarat during 10/12th century AD.when lot of silk weavers from saurashtra came to south via Maharashtra. The dukkia is first mentioned in AD 1068 in Gujurathi Jain literature, and dhokla appears in AD 1520 in the Varanaka Samuchaya. Besan flour is fermented overnight with curd, and steamed in slabs which are then cut into pieces and dressed with fresh coriander leaves, fried mustard seeds and coconut shreds. A coarser version is khaman and both are popular breakfast and snack foods in Gujurat. But we have to note that Gujart was ruled by chalukyas and Rastrakutas for many centuries before that and Idada may be from iddalige. Since we dont find references to that before that.

Being a "Sourashthrian" (I also belong to the Silk Weavers Community), I'm proud of this fact. If it had not been our ancestors, the Sounth Indian's would not have got this great South Indian dish.

The 100 million club

Being working in a mobile software development field, I'm always enthusiastic about software products which is extremely successful.

Today, I happened to come across an article "The 100 million Club" which lists down the software products which have been embedded on more than 100 million embedded devices.
  • I was quite surprised to see that Flashlite is getting embedded in huge numbers of devices. (May be its time for me/other mobile developers to get acquainted with Flashlite. New oppurtunity might be hidden).
  • The number one position goes to "T9". If the Nuance successfully acquires some Zi Corporation, then Nuance would get a near monopoly in the mobile text input software. (I wish to create a product which achieves near monopoly).
  • ENEA OSE & Mentor Graphics Nucleus has been shipped in more than the Symbian devices. May be, next year, lot of Android devices would get shipped & Android would also find a place in 100 million club.
  • Happy to see that Qualcomm BREW (the platform in which I work) is also in the top 25 products.
Apart from the above list, Vision mobile has compiled a pretty good atlas(!) of all mobile software products.

"I Fix" Potholes Campaign at Chennai

I came across this posting from Kiruba's blog and impressed by initiative of the people involved. I also wish to start similar initiative in Bangalore and fix some of the potholes in my usual way to office. (I go through the Koramangala's 80 Feet road adjacent to the National Games complex and travel through the Ashwini Layout to reach the Intermediate Ring Road). To do that, I need a team and a good network of people who could volunteer.

Is there ready to volunteer???

Update on task list

Finally, I've recovered from the fever and feeling better enough to go the office (though there is slight trail of cold still left). During my previous post, I've listed down the activities to be done during the so-called "free time" and when I look at it now, I've not even completed 10% of it. Even I've not watched a single movie which I wished to do. One of the reason would be the Twenty20 matches. (Well, I predict SA would emerge as winner).

Here is the update on the list..

- Learn more about the posting a content in the blog (like attaching a Youtube video, etc) => Nil (I think it would be prudent to get a training from known person rather than exploring it myself)

- Update the Symbian Knowledge (my knowledge is outdated as my last work was in Symbian 7.0s) => Nil

- A better look at PIPS and Open C => Nil

- More details about the Access Mobile Platform => Done (just got a little exposure about ALP)
- Re-evaluavting my portfolios of stocks and strategy for future investment in equities =>Nil

- Getting in touch with my old-pals => Nil

- Watching movies (movies list is long, but a quick list is பருத்திவீரன், Chak De India, etc) =>Nil (This is too bad!!!!!)

- Troubleshoot my god-damn Vista network problem which occurs only with home router(a Huawei made one) => Done. Tried many options like changing the wi-fi adapter card, reinstalling the vista, etc. Finally installed Windows-XP and now the network problem does not surface.

- Complete the books(non-technical) which I've started reading (here too, the list is Train to Pakistan, It happened in India, Green Mile, Rich Dad Poor Dad, etc) => Completed reading the book, Train to Pakistan. Would post the review soon.

Back to the blog-o-shpere

It has been long since I've done a blog posting(who said it is last, well, actually I've posted only once and that too at the start ...he.he.he).

One may wonder what has prompted this blue gened guy back, you've got the answer. It is to do with my fever and cold. Yes, I'm down with fever and I'm utilizing the so-called "well-ness hours" to do some posting.

Some simple points for the thoughts...I'm wearing a blue colored sweater and blue night pant. Is it because I love blue color or just a mere coincidence?

So, I'm down with fever and would be having a lot of free time as I've put leave for my office. How well could I use my free time? Following is the list

- Learn more about the posting a content in the blog (like attaching a Youtube video,etc).- Update the Symbian Knowledge (my knowledge is outdated as my last work was in Symbian 7.0s)
- A better look at PIPS and Open C
- More details about the Access Mobile Platform
- Re-evaluavting my portfolios of stocks and strategy for future investment in equities
- Getting in touch with my old-pals
- Watching movies (movies list is long, but a quick list is பருத்திவீரன், Chak De India, etc)
- Troubleshoot my god-damn Vista network problem which occurs only with home router(a Huawei made one)
- Complete the books(non-technical) which I've started reading (here too, the list is Train to Pakistan, It happened in India, Green Mile, Rich Dad Poor Dad, etc)

Would be continuing shortly...
